Clone a Virtual Machine on Windows
To clone an Oracle Linux Virtual Machine, I have formulated few simple steps to enable you complete the process.
- Shut down the VM. It should be in a powered-off state before starting the cloning process.
- On
the VirtualBox Manager, locate and right-click on the Virtual Machine which you would like vdi/vhd resized. Then Select Clone.
A clone Virtual Machine dialog box will appear. Provide the name and location of your new machine. Additional options are provided on the dialog box; they can be checked if required. Click on NEXT to proceed with the process.
Then choose the Clone type. Select Full clone to include all files available in the old environment.
Next, select whether to include or to exclude snapshots available in the old Virtual machine. If you are cloning the machine to increase disk space, then select the Current machine state to exclude the snapshots. You cannot increase/expand disk storage dynamically if your virtual machine has snapshots. Finally, hit on Clone and wait for a few minutes for the process to finish.
- Open your Virtual Box manager to confirm that your process was successful. You should see an added new entry to your available Virtual Machines.
